About Me
Meet the maker.
I’m Samantha Gehrmann, the maker and photographer behind Wattle and Weft. From my rural Australian home, I spin yarns and weave textiles by hand. Each piece is crafted slowly from natural, luxurious fibres that honour the art of mindful making.
Life here, in the country, moves to its own rhythm. I draw inspiration from the Australian landscape — the golden wattle in bloom, the scent of eucalyptus on the breeze, the birds flitting around our garden, the soft rustle of leaves and the quiet hum of everyday life. My little home is filled with looms, spinning wheels, and the joyful chaos of family; it’s here that my work truly comes to life.
Through Wattle and Weft, I create small-batch yarns and handwoven textiles that are meant to be treasured, used, and loved. Every thread carries a sense of home, nature, and intention. They are shaped by time, care, and the beauty of imperfection.
Alongside my weaving and spinning, I’m also a photographer, recognised for capturing the natural, raw, and emotive moments that define life. My imagery and textiles share a common thread in that they both seek to celebrate the quiet beauty of the everyday.
Among these pages, you’ll find stories, photographs, and notes about the yarns I spin and the textiles I weave and knit by hand.
